Will the Christmas of 2017 turn into a green Christmas? Now the extreme changes of climate change won't happen overnight or even over a year. To those aware of climate change, there are many visible affects that are in front of us: the negative affects it has on the habitat of wildlife, those living in undeveloped countries whose health is being affected and an increasing number of endangered and extinct species. There are many people today that are still ignorant to the reality of climate change, many are uneducated and have not had the opportunity to attend college, taking just one environmental science class. They are also the people that live in their own world, where once the trash is thrown away they don't think of where it goes (a landfill).
We are on the verge to the year 2017, a year that many, including myself, are going into hopeful and inspired to be better. I'm very much looking forward to 2017, it will be my first full year as a college graduate, and there are many goals I am looking to pursue. Eating healthier, exercising more and getting my environmental organization "Love Others, Love the Planet, Love Yourself" up and running to inspire us to love others and change the world.
I am really fired up now to spread the awareness of climate change to all corners of the state of Wisconsin. I woke up to the news that the "DNR removes wording saying humans cause climate change" (fox11online.com).
How could we possibly be under an administration that denies scientific facts? Does the administration even have to take action? (It would be wonderful to take action on climate change, but not required.) But to deny facts...that is appalling. And this is not the first time these sorts of actions have occurred in the Wisconsin state government. Two years ago I tweeted, in relation to Governor Scott Walker making changes to the language of the mission of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: "Wisconsin joining a ban, not on climate change...but using the word climate change and researching it. What has this state come to..."
Now, my environmental movement takes no political stance, and it's goal to centered around loving others, not bashing one another. I do not have any negative words for any person, administration or political party...rather I allow this to inspire me to work harder to spread positivity and spread the awareness of climate change.
There are many reasons to believe climate change is real and caused by humans, I could list pages and pages on this blog of statistics and quotes from world renowned scientists and studies that prove climate change is real, but I will leave with a simple quote from one of the world's most intelligent and distinguished physicist: "'Humanity will not survive another 1,000 years on Earth', according to renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking" (Cuthbertson). Live your life thinking of future generations, it is possible to live both happily and sustainably. When you make decisions, think of the next 1,000 years and the 1,000 years after that. For short-term thinkers, think of your children and grandchildren in the next 100 years. A lot will change over a century, don't make your children and grandchildren clean up the mess of our generation.
